- Obtain medical and travel insurance for whole duration of proposed
trip.
- Check the latest Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Advice.
- Have a valid and appropriate visa for Saudi Arabia in your passport
before travelling.
- Do not bring with you any drugs, alcohol, pork products, religious or
pornographic material, or literature containing illustrations of scantily
dressed people, particularly women. The death penalty is frequently
imposed on drug smugglers. The penalties for alcohol offences can be
severe, and the Embassy is unable to protect you from them.
- Do not arrive under the influence of alcohol; the consequences can be
serious.
- Understand the differences between UK and Saudi law, especially
involving alcohol and moral behaviour.
- Try to arrange for someone to meet you on arrival.
- Ensure you bring a doctor’s prescription for any medicinal or
pharmaceutical drugs being carried.
- Dress conservatively in public.
- Carry identification at all times, and enter next of kin details in
your passport.
- The public practice of any form of religion other than Islam, or
proselytising, is strictly prohibited.
- Non-payment of debt is a crime punishable by imprisonment;
imprisonment does not discharge debt.
- It is illegal for women to drive.
- If staying for more than a month, register your presence with the
British Embassy in Riyadh or the British Consulate-General in Jedda;
re-register every January and tell them of any change in your details, or
of your departure.
