- Take out adequate travel/medical insurance.
- Take cash and travellers cheques with you; do not rely on credit cards
as your only source of funds.
- Take a photocopy of your passport and keep the original in a safe
place.
- Inform your family and friends in the UK of your whereabouts: travel
itinerary, hotel telephone numbers.
- Enter next of kin details into the back of your passport.
- Avoid isolated areas and travelling alone at night.
- Check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Advice.
- Do not wear jewellery, especially in the downtown area of the main
cities.
- Do not leave your baggage unattended at any time.
- Do not bring sterling currency. Only US dollars are widely accepted.
- Do not carry large amounts of money, take the necessary and keep the rest in a safe at the hotel.
