- Ensure that you take out full medical and travel insurance.
- Check the FCO Travel Advice before booking your ticket and just before
you go.
- Bring enough funds in case of emergency.
- Keep belongings in a safe place out of public view.
- Respect local laws. Canadian beer is typically stronger than in the UK
– do not drink and drive.
- Obey speed limits. Take extra care when driving in winter and at dusk
and dawn when deer and moose are most often encountered.
- Heed local weather warnings - winter in Canada can be dangerous if you
are not adequately protected.
- Leave a photocopy of passport, airline tickets and itinerary with
friends or relatives in the UK.
- Enter next of kin details into the back of your passport.
- Don’t carry drugs (including Qhat, which is legal in the UK but not in
Canada).
- Don’t overstay your visa or non-refundable airline ticket.
- Don’t pick up hitchhikers or strangers when driving – especially in
remote areas.
