- British citizens require visas both to visit and to transit through
Belarus. Visas should be obtained prior to travel.
- Check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Advice before
travelling.
- There is no longer a concession for holders of other CIS/FSU country
visas to transit Belarus without a Belarusian visa.
- Visitors must register with the police station in the district in
which they staying. However, visitors staying in hotels will be
automatically registered.
- It is compulsory for all foreign visitors to purchase a local medical
insurance policy. These policies can be purchased at ports of entry but
should not be considered an alternative to a comprehensive travel
insurance policy. Once purchased, keep with your passport.
- Keep belongings in a safe place.
- Carry at least a copy of your passport at all times.
- Enter next of kin details into the back of your passport.
- Credit cards are not widely used but can be used to withdraw cash at
major hotels and banks. Some large stores and restaurants will take them.
- Sterling is not widely accepted for exchanging into Belarusian
Roubles, carry a mix US currency and travellers cheques. Ensure you have
enough money for the duration of your stay.
- Only exchange foreign currency at Government licensed booths. These
can be found in or near major stores, hotels, banks and all shopping
centres. Non-compliance can result in fines and/or arrest.
- Don’t overstay your visa.
- Don’t carry drugs penalties are severe.
